What a great idea Annoyingcallers.com is! It basically lists the numbers of the idiots who harrass you by phone. The idea, I guess, is to build up a database of the abusers of the system, which in fact, is probably well regulated in your locality, it is just that these people are blatantly ignoring the law, and their bosses want that, but pretend not to, so it is the agent doing the calling who gets into trouble once caught.
You can normally tell if it is an unwanted call, as quite often the I.D. on the phone display will be blocked.
Most phone companies will co-operate in tracing who it is, especially if you threaten to change carriers if they don't assist, but try being nice and polite first.
Local governments generally have jurisdiction and laws governing abusive phone use.
My hubby once had an issue with someone calling for a person who did not live with us, but they would not believe that. The calls went on and on, and finally the caller got abusive. My Hubby tracked down the calling company which was a collection agency, traced the name of the CEO of the holding company, who was a University high-up, well respected. Hubby told him in no uncertain terms what his company was up to, and that he might think that he is a pillar of society, but he is being made a fool of by those at the call center he owns.
The calls ceased.
But now that we have
AnnoyingCallers.com to help, things are easier than they were a few years ago
