Icey driveway
Wednesday, January 28, 2009
When you look at outside from the house, you would think that it's nice( temperature-wise), it's sunny and it looks calm. But it's so deceiving, you will be really fooled with the look of it. It is really cold and it has been like this for the last few days, -18c with wind chill that would feel like -30c sometimes. My driveway is just a sheet of ice. I slipped there once last week, good thing it wasn't a major fall, I was able to land on the snowy part of the driveway, not on this hard ice. It is really hard to get in and out here. I have to put my car in neutral and let it slide to my parking spot. It's just a matter of technique:)..I really don't want to drive fast enough as my normal driving as I might end up in an awkward position where I can;t get out, or worst, hit hubby's car. With condition like this, sand is really helpful. I carry a bag of it in the back of my car for situations where I get stuck!

Cold Cold Cold!
Monday, January 26, 2009
It is absolutely freezing outside. I just had Hubby warm up my car for me (it is actually his car I am using right now, no remote starter on it!)and it is still not really pumping out the heat, even after idling for 15 minutes.
Now it is time for my evening of work to start. Luckily, the buildings I will be in seem to always have the heat cranked right up - they must be rented with the heat included!!! Hey, there is an idea - make it illegal to heat unoccupied (like overnight, weekends) buildings to more than 15 degrees Celcius. Could save some global warming there.

Healthcare Jobs Worldwide
Friday, January 23, 2009
Before I came to Canada, I had taken the entry exam to go into a nursing course. I actually never got to start the training, due to my son Arvin coming along. I have often thought of trying to get further training here in Canada, but it is harder here, as everyone works harder just to keep up with the bills we have that are connected with the richer lifestyle. If I ever do reconsider it again, I can take a look at jobs in health care globally, then make a more informed decision. Interesting how easy things have become now we have the Internet!

Speaking of Diet Pills.....
Speaking of comparison shopping, as far as diet pills are concerned, there is probably more interest in the quality than the price. After all, the big question is whether it will work for me. I don't just want to find the cheapest diet pill, but the best diet pill for me. There is definitely a difference between products as far as these pills go, and I have no doubt that they work in different ways for different users, as the human metabolism is often involved.

Comparison Shopping
Comparison shopping is a great way to go. Before I bought my camera, I did some comparisons, and ended up by buying it from Dell where it was way lower in price than at other outlets. Another product that has easy comparisons possible are diet pills, this might be because they are so popular these days that the competition has gotten more fierce.

Learning
I am definitely still learning this Digital SLR. I did have a lot of photos taken since I got it. But I am not satisfied with the outcome yet. I have a few photos that turned out good, (as far as my opinion is concern anyways). I really think that I would need the macro lens and so I am in the lookout for sales out there. Here's one of the photos I've taken that I thought was not that bad:)

Digital SLR
Saturday, January 17, 2009

I have always wanted a new digital SLR camera ever since I saw on webpages that they have higher quality pictures, but they were just too pricey for me, so in the past I have always settled for a fairly high end point-and-shoot digital. I was pretty happy with it, but the thought of that SLR was just so tempting that I have been looking at them at stores with envy. I really don't have any clue about SLRs. All I know is that they take good quality pictures and that's all I wanted. The thing that I noticed a lot about these cameras are their prices. Some of them go from $3000 to $1200 in 18 months, so I thought I will wait for the right moment until they go down enough that I could afford one. I was expecting to buy myself a digital SLR for Christmas, and so I was really saving for it. My expected guess price was about $700 to $900 tops. To my surprise, while browsing online, I came across a website that sells a Canon Rebel XS with 2 lenses for $399!!! And that is in Canadian dollars! I don't think anyone can beat that price! And so I grabbed it without thinking of course! and so my Christmas was just fantastic!!! lol...although I was really aiming for the next product up (the newer Rebel XSi), I just couldn't pass the opportunity for that price. I thought, even if I get bored with it in a couple of years, I still have had my money's worth. I have so much to learn about this camera though. This is not just a simple point-and- shoot kinda deal. I have also just found out that it doesn't matter if your SLR is not top of the list now, what's important is having the best lenses for the image you want, and the ability to adjust the focus and look at the actual image you will saving. This camera I bought came with 2 lenses, 1 telephoto lens( EF 75-300mm)--just found out the use of it, by the way, lol :)..and the smaller version(EF 18-55mm), which are not really bad for the price I paid. I am looking for the macro lens now so I can take photos really up close...and so the fun begins...lol

baking mood
Sunday, January 04, 2009
Yes, I am in a baking mood these days. Got a lot of baking done . I was able to make some of these delicious cupcakes for my son and I was able to make rolls( from scratch^-^) for hubby. Hubby love it when I make rolls with meat inside. I haven't made these rolls in years and hubby was just delighted when I started taking out all my baking gear:). These rolls with meat inside is suppose to be steamed. We call this Siopao(steam buns) back home in the PI. But hubby find it a little gooey and so a friend and I tried to bake them one day and waalah- hubby just can't have enough of them! lol..
