Will My Hubby Ever Grow Up? - I Say NO!
Friday, July 31, 2009
Thinking about vehicles, my hubby has what some people call the 'poverty syndrome'. Instead of getting a newer vehicle, he actually seems to prefer running a piece of junk that has a major thing wrong, or likely to go wrong.
His latest is a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The price was right, but, oh, you should just hear the whining noise from the transmission. For the money he is throwing into it, he could have got a newer, lower mileage one, and been even happier, I'm sure. Just like a little child, they (guys) all are.

Dressing Up Your Car Or SUV
Since I got my van I have been a little discontented. When I had my Jeep it was a good feeling to get into it, but the van, well, it is a GM product, and even the Chevrolet badge on the front is looking worn out, and the van is a 2008 model.
There is not as much that can be done with a van, I think, as with a car or SUV. If you have an SUV you can really make a difference by getting aftermarket wheels, and of course with cars you can add a front air dam, or spoiler.
There really is something to be said for adding some items that change the looks. It can actually freshen up the vehicle, and make it acceptable to you, as an owner, for a while longer than would otherwise be the case. You don't have to spend a fortune either.

Do Kids Talk In Code?
Thursday, July 30, 2009
I often think that kids talk in a kind of code. They make references to TV programs or characters, and often these are slang abbreviations of the actual name. "I want a Wii" a child says, and I imagine that they need the bathroom. "I am going to a friends house, he has a PS3". Not code at all, he means a Playstation 3.
Now, I am expecting my Hubby to say to me at any time soon, now he is getting old, "I have a touch of E.D." I won't go any further with this!

Sun Or Rain, Kids Will Play
Wednesday, July 29, 2009
It is interesting to hear my Hubby's views on bringing up children. For instance, he says I should not insist that a child has proper clothing on to suit the weather, "because a bit of rain won't melt them, and they can then decide for themselves if they want that discomfort the next time". Hmmm, it isn't him who has to put up with a kid that has the sniffles through getting chilled.
Anyway, it is interesting how kids don't even notice the weather, they will argue that it is warm (or cool) enough, provided it suits their purposes. Even though the summer might be about half over, it is never to late to get some outside type toys, such as slides, or swing sets. I have the opinion right now that anything that will drag my little dude outside must be good, as he can play video games all winter long if he likes.

Universal Health Care - The Math Might Work
Thursday, July 23, 2009
One of the things that the TV discussions about the proposed universal health care forget is that if the government is paying the bill, then they are able to do some really large bulk purchasing.
This in turn makes the current figures incorrect?
Right now, they are figuring it all out using figures which include the corporations that doctors are registered as, as an indication of future prices and costs. But these include the profits for those corporations, whereas in, say, the UK, the doctors are paid by the government, and there is no middleman profit for the taxpayers to pay. Or am I thinking incorrectly?

Health Insurance Need Not Be a Burden
Many of us have no doubt seen the speeches from the various politicians about the projected universal health care. One of the options that is to be offered is to leave things as they are, and maintain your current health care situation. This might actually be good for consumers, by creating competition for the best deal in low cost health insurance. You can even get a quote right online - just be sure to check that the online form starts with 'https', which is an indication of higher security.

Acne - Embarrasing, but Controllable.
Wednesday, July 22, 2009
Acne used o be a worse scourge than it is these days. Advances in medications available have allowed it to be more of just an inconvenience for most sufferers. The various products available work in slightly different ways, so as a starting point it is a good idea to find a website where there are comparisons of the various acne treatments.

Laptop Computer Memory Increases Speed.
Monday, July 20, 2009
With a laptop, you have more restrictions on what you can add to increase the performance. The usual practice of just adding some more sticks of RAM, (Random Access Memory) is not always possible due to the space available. So, the way to deal with laptop memory is to replace the lower powered RAM with a stick or 2 or 3 that has more clout. And right now we are in a cheap time for RAM, as the price generally fluctuates up and down in cycles. It might even be worth buying an extra stick or two for your future computer purchase!

Does Work Make People Dull?
Tuesday, July 14, 2009
There is a saying that 'all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy', and this might have some truth in it. Since I started my business, I have been working most days of every month. I have only recently had a few days off, due to my Sis getting a car, and being able to help me out.
I think that maybe we place too much importance on 'being a busy person', as though it is a status symbol. Perhaps it ought to be the other way around, and people who say they are busy should be treated as if they are fools for wasting their lives.

Cheap Shoes, or Good Shoes?
I have always tended to buy the cheapest things that I can, whereas my Sis, being more fashion conscious, tends to go for the better but more expensive brands. I have to admit though, it is great to put on a high quality pair of shoes, and feel the comfort. I suspect that they might last longer, as well, especially if I have a good wardrobe full of them.
I checked out some Dansko womens shoes the other day, and was delighted. The prices seem good too, not super-cheap, but I don't think I can match the quality for the money I will be spending on them.

Orlando - Saves Your Vacation Bucks!
Sunday, July 12, 2009
If you happen to live in the eastern side of the continent, then it makes sense to save some money this year on your vacation. No need to take expensive plane trips, just drive a bit, and end up in Orlando, where you can do 'the Disney thing' as a friend of mine calls it, or even check out Universal Studios, or of course Seaworld. Stress free Orlando vacations are possible because of the great packages available, with no risk of your dollar reducing in value against the local currency, like has happened with other locations.

Kettlebells - Musical Instrument? - NO!
Friday, July 03, 2009
When I first heard the name 'kettlebells', I imagined a thing that looks like a kettle, that you hit with a stick so that it rings like a bell. I was imagining what ancient society might have used such a thing, and for what kind of ritual? Well, it turns out that Kettlebells, with a capital 'K', are a form of small barbells, and the Kettleworx make of these come with DVD's that are instructional in the uses of this unique exercise product. A great part of losing weight by increasing exercise, and this is without it being required to stand outside in the cold. Handy to store, and proof that you don't need a big complicated exercise machine to get into good shape.
