Winter Feels Like It Is Here.
Sunday, November 22, 2009
Actually, the title is incorrect, it is ME who feels like winter is here. The temperature suddenly dropped, and although we have had a bit of overnight frost on a few days in the past month, we haven;t, until today, had that cold freezing feeling as the wind gets up, coupled with a temperature of only a few degrees above freezing pint, that cuts right through thin clothing like a knife. My way to fix this? Simple. I dug out the winter clothing from the basement, and have stated airing it out ready to wear.

More Life From Your Car
Saturday, November 21, 2009
The days have passed when it was an event for a car to reach the million mark in production. Let's face it, one of the reasons that cars are so cheap (considering how complicated they are) is because so many are made from the same set-up. And they come out like cookies from the cookie-cutter, all the basic same item. Now, a way to get around that, and add a bit of flair to your lifestyle, is to add some auto accessories to alter the appearance of the vehicle. You can run a new vehicle for a year or so, then add the accessories to make it seem that it might be a different model. With the depreciation rate of vehicles, you can literally save thousands of dollars this way.

Clean Water - no prob!
Wednesday, November 18, 2009
One of the things that I notice about living in the city compared to living in a rural place, is that the water in the city smells of chlorine. I open the faucet, and there is is, a big bleach smell. Now, on the other hand, in the country, I open the tap, and I know that the water is really my own responsibility, as it is up to me to test it if I wish to, or make sure that there are no solids by using a ukf7003axx filter or something similar.
But it goes further than that. With a filter like the ukf7003axx , even things like lead and chlorine can be reduced or eliminated. So it can benefit city dwellers and rural dwellers alike.

Promoting A Business Or Event
Tuesday, November 17, 2009
There are lots of ways to promote a business or an event. If the business is wise, it will choose a way that repeats, rather than things like a radio advertisement. I am sure we have all seen and used pens that are printed with a company name, but even they generally get thrown away when the ink runs out. A better way is to have custom shot glasses printed to a suitable specification. They way, they get a one-off dramatic introduction when presented, plus they are likely to end up in almost daily use, thus increasing the advertising exposure. The same with events - the glasses become a collectible after the event.

Talk About London Fog - How About This!
Sunday, November 15, 2009
London is a city that reminds everyone of fog. There is even a clothing company using the name. So it is good to see that it is not only London that can lay fame to being foggy. There is also Halifax, Nova Scotia. But only at a few times of the year, or more accurately, a few days of the year. Today was one of them. After being a bit cool for a week or so, it warmed up a little, and in rolls the fog. Not too bad. Not enough to cause accidents, but enough so that the harbour cannot be seen across.

Las Vegas - weird, or wonderful?
Las Vegas is a unique place. For a start, it was developed from nothing. Just a load of sand. Then add some water, some electricity, and it all grows up from there. There certainly are many cities of the world featured, Venice Las Vegas, paris las vegas, as well as The Pyramids Las Vegas.
Then of course there is that place where they have a water fountain show, with jets of water spraying up into the air to the rhythm of music, and illumination of colored lights. Interesting.

Stainless Steel - Good For Food
Monday, November 09, 2009
Any of us who know about metals or materials in general, are aware that most knives and forks these days, let's say all utensils, are made from stainless steel. Stainless steel is like regular steel, except that it is resistant to corrosion, and that means rust. This is done by adding some chromium to the steel mixture. And if you need to store large amounts of things like food, there are even stainless steel drums that are like regular steel drums, but do not rust.

My Sisters Car Is Slightly Broken.
Sunday, November 08, 2009
Well, not really broken, just a bit worn out. I think that it is about a 1997 or 1998, so I suppose it is to be expected that some parts will need replacing at some time. It is making a big whining and droning noise, and when my Hubby looked at it, it is the wheel bearing on the front wheel that is worn out. Surprising really, it has only done a few miles since it last passed the inspection, and Hubby was watching the guy, and says that he checked the wheels for slackness, and there was none, at that time. Oh, well, luck of the draw, at least she has no payments to make as well as paying for repairs.

Speaking of TV deals..
Saturday, November 07, 2009
One of the great things about the current supposed economic crisis, is that things have gotten more competitive. Particularly with so-called luxury items, such as electronics such as stereo systems as well as some great tv deals that can be found, especially online. Now, one of the great things about buying things online is that you know that the savings that are possible jut HAVE to be greater than with local shopping, as the overhead costs are certain to be lower. All you have to look at is whether they are passing on those savings to you, the customer.

LCD TV's - Better than the old style TV's?
Friday, November 06, 2009
I used to be quite happy with my old TV, but now that the LCD tvs have come down in price, I have to admit that I like the idea of getting one. For a start, you can more easily hang them on a wall. I know that I could have done the same with my old TV, but I would have needed a great big steel frame to support the weight. Then there is the amount of space you need from the screen backwards towards the rear of the unit. My computer monitor is LCD, and I really like the thin compact style of it. Our spare monitor, old style, that is used by my son, barely fits on the desk, but that is because the screen is really big on it.
So, I am thinking it might be nice to not only change out the spare PC monitor, but also to look at doing the same for the TV, particularly as I think that the LCD type might use less power to run it.

The Snow Arrives.
Monday, November 02, 2009
Here in Nova Scotia, we can pretty well say that there is a good chance that things will stay 'green' well into December. In fact, most years, we have the threat of what is referred to as a 'green Christmas'. I remember a few years back the snow didn't come until Christmas eve. Once it is here though, it seems not to fully clear until the spring, in April. In between we have ice pellets, freezing rain, the whole nine yards as they say.
So, it was interesting to wake up to the bright light of snow reflecting light through the window. Time to start being careful when I drive.

Tubs can cause accidents.
Sunday, November 01, 2009
My Hubby has mentioned to me a few times how he nearly fell over getting in or out of the bath tub. He says that it is a matter of the speed of balance, that as we get older, we cannot correct things as quick, and so, in the case of having maybe one foot inside a tub, it makes for a greater chance of falling. Maybe I ought to get him one of those walk in tubs I have seen. That should decrease the risk quite a lot, as he won't be balancing on one foot as he gets into it. Give me a chance to get rid of the old regular tub, too - it has had a damage mark on it since before we bought the house. Two birds, one stone!
