Wind Warnings And Rain Warnings
Friday, February 19, 2010
Now, we are looking at spring arriving, and with it the usual rain, but this year is a bit weird. We have had lots of wind during the winter, and it seems that it is continuing. The wind speeds, too, are a lot higher than the normal high winds that we are used to getting.
So, it is something that we are going to have to get used to, I guess. As the land masses warm up, I guess that the heat rises, and draws in air from the sides. creating higher winds.

Thank God For Online Quotes!
Thursday, February 18, 2010
Thank God for online quotes. It doesn't matter if it is maybe the price of a car, or the price of a service type product, it is great that we no longer have to wait for over a week just for a letter to arrive with the quote. For things like life insurance it is really competitive, and you can really get to the bones of whether the price you might have in mind is realistic, or even maybe not so. And even if the quote is not instant, such as a computer generated figure, you can normally get an email response back in very short time.

Olympic Fuss
Tuesday, February 16, 2010
Seems that every time there is any kind of event, it ends up with some kind of political goings-on happening.
Take, for instance, the Winter Olympics.
It should just be a simple sporting event, but it ends up with riots and stuff like that going on.
Part of the problem seems to be the new media, as they over-dramatize everything that they can.
Now, if we could just get them to be quiet, and behave........

Herpes is not as bad as it used to be.
Monday, February 15, 2010
With most things medical, as time goes on, the cures just get more and more efficient and lower priced as well. Take for instance herpes simplex virus 1 - it was a real problem for a while there when it first started spreading widely, but not so bad these days. It has not been cured as such, but is now, like diabetes, a bit more controllable, as the knowledge about it has gotten more widespread. The main thing with it, I guess, is not to be tempted to cut corners as far as risk taking goes.

Do diets work?
Saturday, February 13, 2010
I believe that diets do work, but I also believe that they are like credit cards, the debt creeps up again after the effort has been made! So the real issue for me is not really whether diets work or not, but whether the weight lost can stay that way, like LOST! But you can always do some research online, and find out some diets that work.

When will it snow?
Friday, February 12, 2010
Just joking, like when will it snow, indeed. Here in Nova Scotia we have had a very mild winter so far. Now, if you want a lot of snow, try taking a trip 'down south' as we say, like into the states, and in particular, Washington DC, the capital. The amusing thing is that they are not really geared up for lots of snow removal, whereas we are. Now, the good thing in all of this is that it holds down the municipal taxes, as they run under the projected budget.

Complexion improvement
Wednesday, February 10, 2010
One of the scourges of having greasy skin is the tendency to get blackheads. The pores seem to have a natural grease that is held there, and then air pollution does the rest. You only have to look at all the dirt in any air filter, such as a furnace filter, to see the amount of dirt that we are all exposed to without really being aware of it. Now, I must check online and find out the best way to get rid of blackheads. Then I could tell you even more, like which member of my family or friends might have these blackheads that I speak of!

Shift Work, and Sleep
Tuesday, February 09, 2010
Working a late shift like I do has gotten to be a bit inconvenient. I would prefer to wake up early, do my shopping and running around, then relax for a bit, maybe watch some TV, then get the work done for yet another day. Now, I don't normally think that sleeping pills are a good idea, as they come under what I think is something that I don't have to have, but, in this case, I have tried making my own adjustments, and all I seem to do is end up staying awake all night, and becoming over tired for the next day. I guess a cautious trial might be in order here, just try it, and see.

Losing some weight
Monday, February 08, 2010
Well, I didn't manage to lose any weight for Christmas, but I have an excuse for that, I just got to busy preparing. So, now we have to look forward to summer. Less clothing means more body exposure. So it becomes even more critical. I have tried a few different diet aids, in particular pills, but the net one I will try, I think, is adipex p. I think that suppressing my appetite is a better way to go for me right now.

Hubby's boat gets put on the backburner.
Thursday, February 04, 2010
Hubby is a bit put out right now. He wanted to get his boat into the water this coming season, but the yacht club where the previous owner had it stored in the winter, and moored in the summer, require that it has insurance coverage. No problem with that, but the way it works out is that the boat has to have an inspection, called a marine survey, and then the work required (and believe me, there WILL be work required!) has to be completed before the insurance is issued. He can't even get coverage for it while it is stored there, and not in the water.
So, he will have to shop around for a place to moor it that doesn't have that same insurance requirement. But, before that, it will have to be taken home, and the work done there.

Insurance competition leads to lower car insurance costs.
The TV is full these days of a few large insurance companies advertising that they offer the cheapest rates. In the end of course, this becomes counter-productive, as they have the cost of the advertising to cover, as well as their normal insurance company running expenses.
Probably the best way to go for really being sure of getting the best quote would be to do you research for cheaper car insurance online. These days, you can get reviews of what the different companies offer, so you are able to do some real comparative shopping. When you think, it is really like work - you spend a few hours or less researching, and the savings can be in the hundreds each year.

Internet access methods are changing
Do you remember when we all had dial-up internet? The idea of a high speed was about a tenth what it is now, or maybe lower. And the webpages have gotten more complicated, with more links in them that draw content from other websites. So it is likely that the old style dial-up would be almost unusable these days.
The latest trend is to get your broadband via a wireless connection, and this has been driven by the phone companies, or more accurately the cellphone companies, getting a stronger setup that can take more traffic than in past years. Companies such as Bell internet now supply service in a wireless format, making for far more versatility, as you just plug a small unit into your USB port, and away you go. This in turn allows for multiple laptops or PC 's to be able to be used - just plug in the unit into the computer that you intend to use.
Wherever there is a suitable cell-tower within range, there is internet access. In your boat, in your vehicle, it makes no difference. Way to go!
