Christmas Eve, still no snow!
Friday, December 24, 2010
Here in the north we expect snow for Christmas. And it is generally almost a given.
But even I have noticed, in the 13 years or so that I have been here, that the snow is getting less, and staying shorter times, both overall for the whole winter, and also in the week to week periods, where we seem to be getting more rain these days.
Having said that, it makes a great gift for hubby, he has no shoveling to do!

Preparing for Spring weddings
Tuesday, December 14, 2010
Personalized gifts are a nice touch to any occasion, or even if there is no real occasion, just a gift for the heck of giving. (Heck in this case meaning joy, of course!)
I was interested to see that these days you can even get gifts with like a cartoon style drawing of your intended recipient on them. Now, that is fame! And, you can always combine the personal touch by adding it to modern and traditional wedding gifts, for instance. Best of both worlds.
But, above all, by not giving just some off-the-shelf item, you are adding yourself to the gift in a way that is otherwise impossible.

Let it snow, let it snow - preposterous says Hubby
Friday, December 10, 2010
We are listening to the Christmas fare on the radio every day, but the reality of sleigh bells, and letting it snow, are just dreams. Good for music, bad for my driving that I have to do to get my work done.
Hubby has a different view than I do. Even though, it has the same end result. He, after all, is the self-appointed snow shoveler!

Human Growth Hormones
Tuesday, December 07, 2010
Human growth hormones are a product which can be useful, but is probably better used with some caution. It is possible to buy hgh without a prescription, but any case where the HGH is injected is sure to require doctor supervision, and therefore cannot be purchased without a prescription. There is a webbsite with some good information regarding side effects, and other good stuff, at www.humangrowthhormone.org.

Christmas Shopping.
Monday, December 06, 2010
I am fairly proud of my progress with Christmas shopping. I haven't even got a list made yet, but have started a good collection, just by browsing around the malls.
It is a good way of annoying Hubby, too. Guys just don't like shopping. I shouldn't have that opinion really, as Hubby does like browsing through things like marine supplies, or car parts, or mechanical things.
But you should look at the bored expression that he has on his face when I take him to the mall!

Buying TV's in Canada
Sunday, December 05, 2010
It is weird how digital technology has changed things. Take TV, for instance. In the 'good old days', the clarity of the picture was set by the number of 'lines' that the broadcast was set up to use. 425 lines in North America, 405 in the UK on the system before color, changing to 625 lines once color TV got going over there.
But with digital broadcasting, or cable transmission for that matter, the information amount, and therefore the clarity, can just be limited by the speed that the transmission method can handle.
Another thing that has affected this is the invention of screens that can respond quicker to changes in the picture, which of course, with a moving picture, is happening constantly.
LCD, LED, both seem better than the old cathode ray tube. Actually there are some led tv reviews relative to 'The Source' store. Pretty good technology, and the prices are good at this time of the year.

Cracks and Racks?
Saturday, December 04, 2010
Quite a catchy name, Cracks and Racks. Actually, a quite unusual combination, probably. Situated in Aspen, Colorado, they fix windshields, sell auto accessories, but the real biggie for those of us who are not near Aspen, is the 'Racks' part.
I suppose that it started off with ski racks. That would be understandable.
And then there are hitch bike racks that don't involve heaving things up onto the roof of a vehicle.
I have often considered that I could save money and help the environment, by having a slightly smaller vehicle that is easier on gas, and use a roof rack. Especially one of those long thin low ones. Then if I needed van type capacity, I could always have a little trailer. Kind of like an expandable vehicle, depending on what I needed to carry.

Home Theater Setups
Thursday, December 02, 2010
Setting up a home theater is more than just having as big screen, and pointing a few chairs towards it. Having said that, it is actually one constant in the setup, that the chairs should face the screen.
A more important part of the setup is the height. And, in turn, this might be affected by the type of chairs used. If the chair has a high back, like a headrest, then the screen can be slightly higher.
Sometimes, it might be beneficial to have two floor levels in the room, and have the chairs set up to look down slightly at the screen. But a good rule of thumb when setting up any home theater system is to start by having the center of the screen at eye level.

Furniture - why you might go modern
Wednesday, December 01, 2010
I have noticed that there seems to be a trend towards old looking furniture that makes no real attempt to disguise that it is fake. Either that, or it is badly done, I can't decide which. They seem to paint on dirt and wear somehow. But the problem is that you are then stuck with that amount of dirt and wear.
So, there is something to be said for being honest in your decor, and just going with modern furniture, where the quality can be seen, the materials can be un-apologetically the best that technology can supply, and the wear and tear not yet occurred!
