Are Good Deals Sad?
Monday, January 24, 2011
In a way, the great deals on consumer items that technology has allowed have created a situation that some might think is sad. Those same or similar items a few years ago, could be regarded as valuable enough to pass on as heirlooms. But here's the other point of view. We can do a shift of thinking on many things. Items that we once treasured , we can relax with a bit more. And even more can be saved when online retailers compete, such as on Black Friday, or Cyber Monday, which lasts longer than just the Monday, goes on for about a week.

Rain Washing Away Snow
Friday, January 14, 2011
It is great how the rain washes away snow, provided the temperature is warm enough. The snag comes when the temperature has been extremely low, so that the cold has got into the ground, because then, when it rains, all you get is wet ice.
When it is really cold, the ice surface is actually dry, and has a little more grip for walking and driving. But that wet ice? Not good at all.

Tidying Up Your Body
Thursday, January 13, 2011
We tend to think of blemishes on our bodies as being from either accidental, or natural health causes, but it is actually not always the case. Take tatoos. They used to be well out of fashion, but have returned into fashion in the last decade or so. Easy to get done, and fairly permanent, but choose carefully, or you might be looking at ways to remove tattoos in a few years time. Avoid names, other than maybe 'mother'. Even a spouses name is not a good idea as you might end up divorced.
But, well worth a thought before going ahead with a tattoo, as something that looks good when you are young might look silly when you are 50 or older.

Tires, Or Repairs?
Wednesday, January 12, 2011
I decided to finally get the front springs fixed on the van. They have been making weird twanging sounds for a while now, in fact, since I got the van, and although I really could also use a new pair of rear tires, I think it best to get the steering noises fixed first.
I have gotten away so far for about 2 years with no repair costs, so I suppose I shouldn't feel too bad about it.

Pocket Knives - Real Nices Ones, too!
Tuesday, January 11, 2011
Hubby has a pocket knife, but I have to admit that it weighs so much that he often does not carry it, and lreaves it in his car, or my van, and then complains that he doesn't have it with him when he needs it. With all the plastic based items that are used for wrappings these days, it has become almost essential to have a knife of some kind handy. Now I have found a better idea - they, that is Spyderco, have designed a knife to be lighter by 'skeletonizing' the main interior frame. The call it the spyderco delica and it comes in various colors and blade types. Would make a great gift, too.

Auto Insurance Shopping
Sunday, January 09, 2011
It is hard to know whether we might be better to shopp around and change insurance companies once in a while, or stay with the same one. I guess that once we have ahd a claim, and they have paid out on it OK, then we might tend to stay with the same company, but then, thinking more, maybe we can save money by changing, after all, it is not common to have to make a claim, or at least it shouldn't be! After all, we can always shop around again in a year or so, and see if the old company has reduced their premiums.
We can even just go to cheapestautoinsurance.net and check the rates online to make comparisons, and to ensure that we are not overpaying.

The Daily Grind
Saturday, January 08, 2011
Is it just me, or is life a bit of a daily grind? I think I might have made things worse by having my own business. Seems like I just get a week over with, and the weekend comes, and I tend to put off whatever jobs I can that should really be completed on a Friday evening, and I do them during the weekend. So, instead of having a weekend clear and free, I end up working.
The good side, though, is that it is a more relaxed work than the work I do during the week, when there are time constraints.

Fighting back the years
Friday, January 07, 2011
I don't know if I would enjoy eternal youth. It might be miserable to have those that you know and love all pass by you, unless of course they had eternal youth as well. There is probably some high tech way that it would be done, some alteration in the bodies DNA or something, but if so, it hasn't been announced yet. Until such a time, there is always the trusty more common anti-aging product to use, though.
It is all about appearances, I guess, getting rid of, or reducing wrinkles. At the same time, we have to accept that wrinkles will appear to some degree, and can add character to the look of a face, but having said that, it is good to be able to just knock a few years off the aging process.

Wrestling and fighting
Wednesday, January 05, 2011
Boxing seems to be fading a bit as a sport. Instead, there is wrestling, and cage fighting. The wrestling has changed a bit too, at some levels, getting more credibility as a real sport, rather than just entertainment, although of course, any sport, not just wrestling, tends to be entertainment, even if only to the participants.
So, it is interesting to see that items relative to that can be purchased online. From personal items such as clothing, right through to stuff like the product used to sanitize the canvas of the ring or cage.

Decor Upgrading
Monday, January 03, 2011
It is interesting to look at older houses, especially the interiors. They will tend to be eiher original, and very much in need of renovation, or will have had some areas where upgrading has already been done at some time in the past.
But it is an overall effect that I look for. It is possible to paint a room, and it will look clean, but if the window frames are dated in appearance, the look of the room will be old.
It is the same with bathrooms, wheree there are the fixtures that give an overall effect, as well as, of course, the kitchen, when not only the stove, but more especially the kitchen sink can make the effort of painting either worthwhile, or not.

Now, when's the next break from work?
Sunday, January 02, 2011
I haven't really recovered from this break from work, and I have to admit that I am looking forward to the next one! Things will get easier as my business expands, as I will have others who can run things, and this will allow for some more free time that I can't really manage to achieve right now.
But at least the cash flow seems to be running OK now.

Bathroom Cabinets
Now, it has occurred to me that there is an item in just about every bathroom that tends to get left out when there is any updating of decor. Actually there are a few, such as medicine cabinets, and towel rails.
It really can change the whole atmosphere of a bathroom to have nice new faucets and towel rails, toilet paper holder, medicine cabinet, the whole array of fittings.
And when doing the updating, try to get the accessories sorted out first, before the painting, so that any repairs to the walls etc are properly finished. It is worth the extra effort.
