Supplementing Medicare
Friday, February 25, 2011
I supposee in an ideal world, the government would look after all medical bills. Same for education. After all, they can do it in Cuba, so why not in the rest of the world?
The fact is that as the standards of medical care get higher, the expense gets higher too. A good medical structure in a third world country would not even come close to the standards of richer countries. Take even one aspect, cancer care. The drug prices alone effectively price the best care out of possible options in the third world.
All the options are a complicated matter. The average citizen is not a medical expert, nor do they have the backround in associated matters. So, just as you probably use an insurance agent to do the insurance shopping for you, then there is always the option of getting online assistance in looking for medicare supplement plans to suit your own specific needs.

Making Things Safe
Sunday, February 20, 2011
Hubby went out yesterday to assist my brother, who had locked his car with the keys resting on the seat, and could not get the door open. Not a biggie, but a lesson to be learned - when buying a used car insist upon 2 sets of keys, especially if the keys are chipkeys that have a computer chip built in. The reason for this is that in some cases, like Jeep for sure, if you have 2 keys, you can manually reprogram a blank key, but with one key, you have to order a key from the dealer, and it might cost several hundred bucks.
Anyway, they were out there trying to get coathangers through the door crack, and Hubby got a bit ticked off because my bro had not bothered to put salt or sand on the sheet ice that had been caused by the overnight rain that was followed by a flash freeze.
It really does pay off to get things safe first, before starting the work. Jacking up cars and getting under them and havee the jack slip causes deaths every year. It only takes a moment to die.
The same goes for reaching high shelves or whatever, an office chair with castors is not the way to reach high places, not when adult step stools are readily available, and last a lifetime.

Safety From The Storm
Friday, February 18, 2011
I have gotten to know when we will have high winds. Living overlooking a major harbour, I can see not only the smoke blowing in a certain direction, but a surer sign is when large ships come and spend the day at anchor in the harbour, known as a the Bedford Basin, that is actually the innermost part of Halifax Harbour.
Right now, we have two large vessels there, and the wind is forecast to be approaching 60 miles an hour overnight, with the temperature dropping below freezing, and the rain changing to snow. I think if I was the captain of a ship, I would do the same.

Safe Economical Diet Pills
Thursday, February 17, 2011
The diet pill industry is no doubt always researching into new possibilities for products. The ones that have the better results are no doubt priced higher, but at the same time, if effective, them money is no doubt welll spent, or at least better spent than on lesser products. It is not just a case of going for any product, the key is to find safe diet pills that work and are an economical choice.

Lipofuze Scores High
Wednesday, February 16, 2011
Lipofuze seems to always come up in reviews with good results. Seems like whatever other products it is compared with, the results favor Lipofuze.
Now, if we look into ab cuts reviews, the opposite might be true. It certainly doesn't seem to have the public acclaim that Lipofuze does. Not that I would totally rule it out, but I think that based on reviews, it might be better to try Lipofuze first.

Flat Tire
Tuesday, February 15, 2011
I had a flat tire the other day. Well, I call it flat, but it was really just soft. Too soft to drive at high speeds, but I was able to get home by avoiding the highway.
It was a small steel screw that had gone through the tread of the tire, and I left in in there until I was able to take it to have the tire fixed. I also made sure that when I parked, the screw was not at the bottom, as the pressure of the ground might have made it leak faster.
Anyway, I made it to the tuire place, or rather Hubby did, and did not have to change the wheel at the side of the road.

The Skin Is An Organ
Monday, February 14, 2011
The skin can do more than protect the rest of the body. It can absorb things, both good things, but also bad things. It is a major way that we stay at the correct temperature to survive. But is does age. That is, it changes as we get older, and, being on the outside of the body, it gets seen, together with any new blemishes such as wrinkles.
Wrinkles seem to be caused when one part of the skin, or one layer if you like, contracts at a diffent speed than another. The outside layer, as it contracts, pulls on the lower layers, and as they have nowhere to contract to, they just bunch up into wrinkles. Or maybe it is the other way around! So, to stop wrinkles, we just have to either allow the lower layers to contract or expand, or do the same for the upper layers, using products such as an anti wrinkle cream, or other moisturizing type product.

Blackhead Elimination
Friday, February 11, 2011
I read somewhere that the skin is actually a body organ, much the same as the liver and kidneys. I suppose that this is true. It does seem to have functions that go beyond just covering up the bones!
The skin actually has a system to enable it to dump out poisons, or any materials that have been over-produced.
This is why acne occurs, and of course blackheads, which are perhaps more simply just pores stuffed with oily matter. The two are basically the same, and the best way to get rid of blackheads is often to use a product for eliminating acne.

Home Insurance
Thursday, February 10, 2011
Although there might be a slow trend for home insurance rates to increase due to increased claims as global warming affects weather worldwide, there are still some cheap home insurance deals to be taken advantage of.
I suppose that the differences in one company from another is probably in the cost of administration. So, it remains a case of simple shopping around.

Speaking of cellphones
Tuesday, February 08, 2011
It is weird how the trend has been to make cellphones smaller. Small is actually not all that is needed. Take batteries, for instance. If we still had the same sized cellphones of a few years ago, but with modern batteries, the batteries could be a lot bigger, to match the phone, and would then last way longer.
Another thing is the size of the buttons. How many times have you pressed a button, only to have the button next to it press down at the same time?
It makes more sense to have the buttons made to match the size of fingers!

Increasing Your Cell Phone Range
Sunday, February 06, 2011
What a lot of people do not realize is that a cellphone is a radio device, just like a walkie-talkie. The difference is, of course, that it does nbot connect directly to another cellphone, but instead, with a cell tower, which in turn is part of the regular phone network.
So, the amount of signal strength that you have will depend on how good the antenna in the phone is, as well as how far away the nearest cell tower is.
If you are right under a cell tower array, (they are often mounted on top of city buildings) then you will have a poor signal, as the antennas are made to put the signal outwards from the sides.
Sometimes, if you are inside a building, just changing to a different location, or room, will allow you the signal you need. Near a window can often make a difference. But a better option is to buy a cellular booster unit that is, in effect, and better antenna for the phone.

Cold Snap
Tuesday, February 01, 2011
Winter finally arrived, and we are in the middle of a cold snap. High winds, too. Not nice. The lakes are now all frozen, except those that have rivers flowing in and out of them, so they look just like snow. That is because thy are snow! We had quite a few inches, like a foot or two in the last couple of days, so the snowplow operators will be happy. Overall, though, with global warming, chances are that snowplow driving will soon be a lost art.

Laminate Versus Wood Flooring
Wood flooring is OK, after all, it has been around for hundreds of years. But it does have some hidden issues, the most common of which is high maintenance. There is only so much you can do to prevent traffic damage. Varnishing works for a while, but also can create a slippery floor as well.
The way to go might be to get high quality laminate floors installed. Being a manufactured item, the installation gives less problems than is the case with wood, so the installation time can be a bit shorter. And once it is down, that is it. No sanding, no varnish, no wax even. And it is set up to allow water to be used in the cleaning of it. Easy.
