Shopping For Vehicles.
Saturday, March 26, 2011
One thing I have just learned the hard way, is to be careful to plan your vehicle purchase as far as length of the financing term goes.
The snag if you fail to plan properly, is that at some point during the term of the finance, you will end up in a situation where the amount left to pay is more than the vehicle can be sold for.
At such a time, it is best not to try to buy a new vehicle, as the financing will have to cover the cost of the financing left over after selling the current vehicle.
The way to go is to try to make higher monthly payments, to pay down the vehicle quicker, and get your finances repositioned so that in, say, a years time, you will be in a position to trade in the current vehicle.

Building Muscle
Friday, March 25, 2011
It is great that you can build muscle without just having strenuous workouts as the sole source. This is not to say that the building of muscle is not dependent upon the levels of workout undertaken, but certainly it is enhanced, possibly enough to ease the workout strain, or even better, by using the best pre workout supplement you can find.
Just as with weight loss, muscle building has an element of metabolism being part of how the body works. The way that food is converted by the body, these are important to building muscle rather than just adding weight.

iPod Nano - the modern walk man!
Monday, March 21, 2011
It is quite some years now since the idea of having portable music became a normal expectation. Until portable tape recorders, the only way to go was a portable radio. So, these days, it is great to see that we can not only carry music with usm, but also video. The 8gb ipod nano is middle range as far as storage capability goes, but is surely adequate for most people.
For a further $30 or so, you can upgrade to the 16 gig model.

Lingerie, anyone?
Friday, March 18, 2011
Some guys like lingerie, and others are not so keen. But for those who do, a great gift that appears to be for the wife or girlfriend, but is actually self-serving, there is nothing to match some french maid lingerie, or maybe just some component parts of the same style of outfit.
And it doesn't end there. Even just using the lingerie for it's original purpose, as underwear, is another great idea to add femininity to any woman.

Promoting Your Business or Event
Tuesday, March 15, 2011
In most cases, when you see a promotional product, the promoted name is that of a company or business. But there is also a great idea, and that is to promote events, such as maybe a family gathering. This idea extends more than just getting some company keychains with logo, or pens with the company name on. Think how great it is for your guests or friends to have a hat, or something of some kind of value as far as use gained goes. And of course, you can still use the same methods to promote a company.

Tsunamis - more than water.
Saturday, March 12, 2011
After seeing the recent pictures of a tsunami in Japan, it can be seen that when that wave hits, after it has gone a little inshore, the amount of debris that is suspended in the wave is a massive danger.
And when a wave goes 6 miles inland, that gives it plenty of debris to carry with it.
It looked to me like it was almost as solid mass, and the movement made it act like a liquid.
It is probably impossible to get free from such a situation, and injuries would quickly lead to death.
This is different that the Indonesian tsunami a few yrs ago, where we could see people moving free of the debris. In the recent Japanese tsunami, the debris seems so tightly packed that it looks like there is no room for any people.

Lighting can change the mood!
Tuesday, March 08, 2011
Light plays a large part of all our lives. Imagine living where it was dark all the time. It has also been proved that depression can occur when the amount of light that we experience each day drops below a certain amount. This depression is what is known as 'cabin fever'. So lighting is more than being able to see, or setting a mood. It is a basic need to live.
As far as lighting a whole room, and brightening everything in the room up, pendant light fixtures are probably the way to go. Then after that is set up, you can add more localized lighing, such as reading lights.

Why Heat The Whole House?
Sunday, March 06, 2011
When oil was cheap, and electricity cheap as well, there was nothing driving any need to save power. Even things like 'carbon footprint' were not a consideration.
As we get into times when oil will be rising again in price, we atart to look at ways to save using it.
For the end consumer, the driving force behind that is generally money.
One way to save on power bills is to use less heat. Heat is one of the most expensive items that electicity is used for.
By reducing the heat in the house at night, we can save heat for a long period of time. We can, of course heat only the bedroom, but a better way is to use an electric blanket on the bed. The electricity used is maybe less than one of the old style light bulbs.
Add a programmable thermostat to switch on the heat just before waking up time, and you have a perfect setup.

The economics of a second smaller car
Thursday, March 03, 2011
My van uses a lot of gas. It is used for hauling cleaning materials around, as well as tools. But I recently changed a contract so I no longer have to haul items away using my own transport.
So, I think that I can manage with a smaller vehicle for most of the time.
It would be good to get a brand new vehicle, too.
So, it does give me a bit of a dilemma. Do I get rid of the van, and the 20 mpg mileage, and get a medium sized vehicle, of maybe keep the van, and get a second vehicle, which would upgrade the whole transport situation.
The second vehicle will need insuring, and it is probably not possible to get the extra costs covered by the more economical fuel costs.

There ARE jobs!
Wednesday, March 02, 2011
It is easy to get mixed up in all the doom and gloom that the news channels bring each day. But I suppose that on the other hand, when you look at what news programs do, you can have hope that they are just sensationalizing the situation.
Like when they say 'The markets are jittery' - just a bunch of poppycock. The fact is that the 'markets' are controlled by people, and those people decide whether they want to make stock market prices rise or fall.
Having said that, the fact remains that whether it is real or a set up situation, there are less jobs available these days than there were in past years. So, there is no doubt more competition, and the selected applicants are probably higher qualified, either through training, or through experience. Before the final production of manufacturing is once more underway, the tech jobs will be busy getting things rolling again. It will be interesting to see how long things take to get really busy again.

Ice, and More Ice
Tuesday, March 01, 2011
Spring is on the way, but right now, we have the rain during the day, and then the freezing overnight. As I mentioned in another post, better to be sure of sanding down the ice, and maybe adding some salt, than to slip and break bones. A good trick is to store the sand in a warmer place, so that when used, it attaches itself to the shiny ice surface.
Another good thing about sand at this time of the year is that when the sun shines on it, it helps to melt the ice.

The Comforting Aroma Of Cigars
It is strange how there is a distinct difference between the smoky smell of a cigarette, and the more scented and richer aroma of both a pipe or a good cigar. In the case of a pipe, of course, it can also smell like an old barn burning down, but there are some pipe tobaccos, mainly of Dutch origin, I believe, that have a really nice aroma to them.
As far as cigars go, you probably have a better chance of a good aroma. Even the lower expense of discount davidoff cigars that you can purchase online have a sound heritage that goes back to Switzerland. You can get smaller quantities to allow proper sampling. And the aroma is almost a guarantee.
